Hanley Ramirez is hitting like Hanley Ramirez

By

The Miami Marlins improved to 5-6 last night when they defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-2 behind the likes of third baseman Hanley Ramirez’s three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was Ramirez’s only hit in the game but it was crucial. This is what the Marlins are going to need from him, his power numbers.

Ramirez has not had a solid and productive season since 201o when he hit recorded a .373 wOBA while earning the Fish 4.6 wins. This season, Ramirez is 12-for-42 and has recorded a slash line of .286/.375/.548 while tallying three homers. Last season Ramirez only hit 10 home runs and drove in 45 runners while earning the Marlins just half a win.

The last few seasons have been very disappointing. It seems like the lack of wanting to win along with injury has plagued himself and the team. He is not the same Ramirez that we have come to know and love. It must be the players around him as well which has allowed Ramirez to start off better than usual. Of course, being healthy is huge as well.

Remember, Ramirez is batting third in front of Giancarlo Stanton, who is making a name for himself as well. A powerful Ramirez will mean a more powerful Marlins team for the 2012 season.
